Stockland rolling out Tesla destination chargers across retail centres

Electric carmaker Tesla and shopping centre chain Stockland have announced a $200,000 collaboration to install Tesla Destination Chargers at all 31 of its national retail centres.

Over the next 12 months, the charging points will be rolled out to complement Stockland’s existing 17 free ChargePoint facilities at 10 locations.

Despite not being as quick to charge as Tesla’s Supercharger network, the Destination Chargers are capable of providing up to 81 kilometres of driving range in just one hour, giving shoppers a quick and convenient top-up method for their electric vehicle.

“We know EV vehicles are part of the future and we look forward to offering more features like this to meet continuing Australian demand,” said John Schroder, executive of the Stockland Group.

“Our customers continue to demonstrate their desire for more innovative in-centre features, tech-integrated amenity and sustainability led initiatives to enhance their everyday shopping experience.”

“It is integral that Australian shopping centres continue to evolve and adapt to retailer, customer and global demands,” he added.

Stockland’s malls currently cover New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

Today’s news follows an announcement in March that BMW has partnered with Westfield to offer ChargePoint charging points at 10 shopping centres in New South wales, Victoria and Queensland.
