2018 BMW M5 teased ahead of August 21 debut
The upcoming 2018 BMW M5 super sedan has been teased again, this time undisguised in a short clip posted on the company’s Facebook page this week.
Scheduled to be unveiled on August 21 – according to Carscoops – the new 5 Series flagship is briefly visible during the 10-second video, which also hints at a special ‘First Edition’ model that will likely be available at launch.
We already know that the next-generation M5 will pack 450kW of power and “at least” 700Nm of torque from its twin-turbo V8, coupled to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.
Thanks to the added traction of the company’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, the M5 will be capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds.
Speaking of all-wheel drive, BMW has also confirmed that the M5’s ‘M xDrive’ system will be rear-biased, and feature three modes – one of which that makes the vehicle rear-wheel drive only.
Additionally, there’s a rear Active M Differential that actively splits torque between the two rear wheels to enhance stability and grip in the bends.
