The already uber-cool Ford GT supercar has just become a little cooler, with Ford announcing the arrival of a second new limited-edition model to be inspired by the US car maker’s iconic Le Mans history.

A follow up to the 2017 Ford GT ‘66 Heritage Edition revealed back in June 2016, the 2018 Ford GT ‘67 Heritage Edition again commemorates a Le Mans win, however this time it’s honouring the No.1 Ford GT40 Mark IV that Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt drove to victory in the 1967 running of the world-famous endurance race.

Where the previous No.2-stamped 2017 Ford GT ‘66 Heritage Edition paired black paint with twin silver GT stripes – a nod to the livery of the 1966 Le Mans-winning GT40 Mark II of Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon – the new 2018 Ford GT ‘67 Heritage Edition teams a gloss Race Red finish with white stripes and exposed carbon.

With No.1 proudly stamped in Frozen White on the bonnet and both doors, the ‘67 Heritage Edition also scores 20-inch silver satin one-piece forged aluminium wheels, black wheel nuts, red brake calipers, and silver wing mirror caps.

Inside, new leather trimming and red stitching have been added to the car’s standard carbon-fibre seats, with red stitching also being carried over to the steering wheel.

Further highlights include red seatbelt webbing, anodised grey paddle shifters, a serialised vehicle-specific identification plate, satin dark stainless cabin accents, and an exposed matte carbon-fibre centre console, and matching door sills.

Keen to drool over what is unlikely to ever be yours? You can head to Ford’s own online configuration tool and check it out in the virtual world – although when we looked, the ‘67 Heritage Edition was unavailable to be viewed. C’mon Ford.

Unsurprisingly, while Ford hasn’t been forthcoming with any fixed numbers for the limited-edition model, it has said, “limited quantities will be available for the forthcoming [2018] model year.” So best of luck.

Given the GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969, stay tuned for further Ford GT Heritage limited editions in the future…

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine, the carbon-fibre-bodied Ford GT was first revealed back in January 2015. And, despite Ford still failing to officially reveal power or torque figures, according to ‘other sources’ (read: Forza Motorsport 6), outputs are believed to be in the realm of around 470kW and 731Nm.
