Holden to auction last three limited-edition Commodores
The last three limited-edition Holden Commodores to roll off the production line in Elizabeth will be auctioned by Manheim this weekend.
Hoping to raise $360,000 for charity, the auction coincides with the Holden Dream Cruise in the South Australian town, as Australia bids farewell to locally-manufactured GM cars.
Wearing the build number ‘0005 of 1200’, the Motorsport is all about Holden‘s racing history. Complete with red and black Motorsport graphics, it pays homage to the number made famous by Holden racing legend, Peter Brock.
The Director, with build number 005 of 360, is the another tribute for Brock fans. The ‘Director’ badge was first applied to one of his HDT specials, and the 005 build number is, once again, a nod to his now-legendary racing number. Based on the Calais, Manheim is calling it the most advanced Commodore in history.
Lastly, the Magnum is the rarest of the group, with only 240 built. The car going up for auction is build number 111 and, in keeping with the Calais theme, Manheim is calling it the ‘quickest and best-equipped ute ever produced in Australia’.
All three cars come with the same 6.2-litre LS3 V8 petrol engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
“We know how much Australians love their Holden vehicles and these three are very special, so we think they’ll be a huge drawcard for motoring enthusiasts right across the country and hopefully they’ll inspire some fierce bidding under the hammer,” said Holden Executive Director of Manufacturing, Richard Phillips.
Half of the funds raised from the sale of the Director will be going to long-time Holden supporter Bev Brock’s chosen charity, Lighthouse Foundation, which supports homelessness in youth.
The rest of the funds will be directed to The Smith Family’s Learning for Life, which helps provide children in the northern suburbs of Adelaide with educational scholarships.
The auction, held on Sunday 15th October at 3 pm ACDT, will be broadcasted live on Manheim’s website.
Registrations of interest for the auction close Saturday 14th October at 5 pm.
