A 1981 Toyota LandCruiser FJ43 has been restored and made over by FJ Company in Japan, bringing a modern touch to the iconic off-roading vehicle.

The rare two-door was driven by the same owner since new, with the 90-year old American giving up his car as he can no longer drive.

FJ Company purchased the highly collectible car from him where a bare metal complete restoration was undertaken for its Signature model.

The white hardtop was removed, and in its place, a canvas top and removable side and rear windows were fitted.

Although the red paint was still in reasonable condition, it was resprayed with a matt Dune Beige, a popular Toyota colour for the model.

LED fog lights give it a modern touch, with a winch installed to the front bumper.

A modern LandCruiser 4.0-litre 1GR-FE V6 engine produces 178kW of power, nearly twice the amount than the original 4.2-litre 2F mill.

It’s paired with a new six-speed manual transmission, and there are four disc brakes straight out of a Toyota 4Runner.

The cabin features tan Recaro Sportster CS leather seats, and bringing the car into the 21st century is an iPad placed in the centre console between the front seats, along with a digital speedometer and tachometer.

According to its website, “the FJ Company Signature represents our kind of luxury — never overdone, and never outdone. Luxurious materials, minimalist design, and modern technology redefine the classic cabin.”

There are three variants available: the Classic from AUD $112,000, the Sport at $158,000, and the featured Signature starts at just over $263,000. The latter will see only 24 units built in 2018, and the company is beginning to take orders.
