SCG 004S revealed

Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus has unveiled its unique take on a “volume” supercar, in the form of the stunning SCG 004S. 

With a three-seat interior and six-speed manual gearbox, the fully-road legal (at least in America) SCG 004S stands out among the current crop of supercars.

Power comes from a 5.0-litre twin-turbo engine with 650hp (485kW) and 720Nm of torque, and a redline in the vicinity of 8200rpm. A six-speed gated manual gearbox is standard, with a two-pedal paddle shift available as an option.

Carbon-fibre has been used for the chassis and body, helping keep weight below 1200kg.

Along with the eye-catching exterior looks, the SCG 004S stands out by virtue of its unique interior layout. Much like the McLaren F1, the car has a central driver’s seat flanked by two passenger seats. The dashboard is refreshingly simple, with an array of gauges spanning its width behind an old-fashioned steering wheel – in fact, it appears the only touchscreen in the cabin is that of the driver’s phone.

Down the line, SCG is planning to offer GT3 and GTE/GTLM version of the 004S alongside the road car. Because it’s been granted NHTSA Low Volume Manufactures Status in the USA, Scuderia Cameron is allowed to build up to 325 cars per year without conforming to certain emissions and safety regulations.

Production of the 004S will start with a 25-strong batch of ‘Founders Edition’ cars, with deliveries slated for 2018/19, while production will be in full swing by 2020/21. That means 250 examples should be rolling off the production line every year, priced from around US$400,000 ($530,000).

Prospective owners will need to place a 10 per cent deposit.
