2016 Mitsubishi ASX, Outlander recalled for door latch fix: 19,000 vehicles affected

Mitsubishi has recalled 19,131 of its 2015.5 model-year ASX and 2016 model-year Outlander SUVs over concerns a faulty latch could cause the doors to open while driving.

The Japanese manufacturer reports that the “precision” of the door latch assembly is insufficient and may not operate correctly in higher temperatures.

As a result, the doors may not lock securely and could open during driving, posing a hazard to the vehicle’s occupants and other road users.

Build dates for affected vehicles across both model lines are as follows:

MY15.5 ASX – 12 April 2015 through 14 March 2016
MY16 Outlander – 23 April 2015 through 15 March 2016

Owners of the recalled ASX and Outlander vehicles will be contacted via mail once parts become available, and will be advised to present their Mitsubishi to their preferred dealer to have the door latches replaced.
