2017 New York motor show: Oddities and curiosities from the Big Apple
The 2017 New York motor show will soon close its doors for the last time.
We’ve covered the new releases and concept cars in great detail already, but here’s one car we missed, and a few oddballs that gave this year’s smaller show some colour and light.
Chevrolet Corvette
The lower secondary hall is largely filled with crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks, as well as displays from some smaller brands. Also afforded space are restored classic cars, including a selection of second-generation Corvettes.
Mazda RX-7
Also on display downstairs are modified cars, the highlight of which, for us anyway, was this third-generation Mazda RX-7, which has a Porsche 911-style front.
Lexus LIT IS
Created for a Dua Lipa music video, the Lexus LIT IS received its first motor show outing in New York.
The car’s creator revealed to us the car is perfectly drivable, albeit only for short periods of time and at relatively low speeds because the air intake portion of the grille is severely restricted.

Acura TLX
Honda’s luxury brand is stuck in a form of limbo, and is limited, basically, to the Chinese and American markets, and kept afloat primarily thanks to its RDX and MDX crossovers.
To help boost the sedan side of the business, the Accord-based TLX has been given an aggressive facelift with the brand’s latest grille treatment.
Subaru 360
The Ascent Concept, the brand’s largest vehicle to-date, was the star attraction at Subaru’s stand this year, but it was the tiny two-cylinder, four-seat 360 that was the highlight for us.
Nissan Rogue One
The X-Trail is sold Stateside as the Rogue, which made this tie-in with the Star Wars: Rogue One movie almost inevitable. We’re advised that the thrusters and weapons aren’t functional. Sad.
