The upcoming sports car from British manufacturer TVR could revive the iconic Griffith name, after the badge trademark was recently renewed.

Set to make its debut in September, the new TVR will be the brand’s first new model since it was revived in 2013, and will feature a Cosworth-developed naturally-aspirated dry sump V8 engine.

While several names are being considered for the new model, according to the UK’s Autocar, the new sports car could potentially become the third iteration of the TVR Griffith – a nameplate which dates back to the 1960s, and last featured on the second-generation sports car which went out of production in 2002.

However,  Autocar reports the company is still undecided on the name of its new model, and is even throwing around badges that would be completely new for the brand.

The Griffith name was last trademarked in late 2015 alongside other significant badges in the company’s history, Tuscan and Grantura – the latter worn by TVR’s first-ever car in the late 1950’s – however, Griffith is the only one of the trio to have been trademarked again.

Stay tuned for more TVR updates in the lead-up to its September reveal.
