The Aussie-built 2014-16 Chevrolet SS has been recalled over concerns a faulty power steering module could cause a loss of steering assistance, with around 6200 vehicles affected.

Chevrolet reports that corrosion of the connector between the electric power steering model and the torque sensor connector may cause a loss of power steering assistance.

If the condition occurs, greater steering effort will be required to control the vehicle, which the company warns could increase the risk of an accident.

Affected owners in the United States are encouraged to call Chevrolet or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline.

Australia

Despite being a left-hand drive version of the Holden Commodore and made in the same factory, General Motors’ (GM) local arm has confirmed with CarAdvice that local vehicles are not affected by this recall.

“The left-hand drive steering gear is a different design to the right-hand steering gear in our local vehicles. As such, it has been determined that no recall of the right-hand drive steering gear is currently required,” the company said in a statement.

“Holden will continue to monitor electronic power steering performance in our right-hand drive vehicles.”
