Rally legends of the 80s go under the hammer

A group of ultra-rare 1980s rally cars will be going to auction with no reserve. Fair enough, too, because the bidding is going to go bananas.

Indeed, sharing World Rally Championships and multiple rally wins between the seven Group B cars, prices could blow out to millions.

What are the cars?

Perhaps the most desirable and valuable of the group is the 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, which took a hat-trick of world titles from 1974 to 1976. It has a mere 12,609 kilometres on the clock.

The 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale was a beast in its day, being turbocharged and supercharged. Rounding out the Italian maker’s set is a 1983 Lancia Rally 037 Stradale (above).

You couldn’t find another Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 (above) in better original condition than this.

Driven only 1113km, it’s still wearing its original tyres. These cars were highly modified from their regular counterparts for rally competition.

The Audi Quattro was a groundbreaking vehicle in this form of motorsport when it was the first rally car to use all-wheel-drive. This 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 (above) was a World Rally Champion runner up back in the day.

And, waving the American flag are two Fords. The first being a 1986 RS200 Evolution (above), of which only 24 were built, along with a standard 1985 RS200, which no doubt will be more affordable, being one of 200 produced.

The rally legends will go to auction with Bonhams in California on August 18.
