Volkswagen Golf ‘7.5’ launching with sharpened prices
Car companies have traditionally reserved aggressive subsidisation of on-road taxes and charges until a vehicle was further into its life cycle and had lost some of its lustre.
But reflecting the extreme competitiveness of the Australian market – one of the world’s most fragmented – many brands are offering key models with sharp drive-away deals at launch.
The latest to embark on such a plan is Volkswagen, which will absorb a few grand worth of extra charges to sell the new ‘Mk 7.5’ updated Golf at $23,990 drive-away, matching its list price before on-roads.
It will also effectively discount the rest of the range by covering all, or at least some, on-road charges for the foreseeable future.
