2018 Audi e-tron quattro spied

The Audi e-tron quattro electric crossover has been photographed undergoing hot weather testing in southern Europe.

The production Audi e-tron quattro SUV is expected to be given its in-the-flesh debut at this September’s Frankfurt show, two years after the concept version took its bow.

These photos show the e-tron quattro has gained framed windows, working wing mirrors and conventional grab-style door handles in its transition to production.

Otherwise, most of the concept’s design elements, including heavily raked tailgate, wide grille and character bulge above the rear wheel arch, have survived the journey to production.

With an electric motor for each rear wheel, and another electric motor for the front axle, the e-tron quattro concept was setup to be predominantly a rear-wheel drive vehicle.

Said to have a total of 320kW of power and 800Nm of torque available at all times, and 370kW in hard launch mode, the concept had a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 210km/h.

Range for the concept is said to be over 500 kilometres. Details about the production car’s drivetrain have yet to be confirmed.

Although the new e-tron quattro won’t be the first all-electric Audi — the R8 e-tron holds that honour — it should be the first where all of its owners can’t fit in a single living room.

Australia

Although the e-tron quattro has yet to be confirmed for the Australian market, the local arm is interested in the vehicle.
