The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class ute has been teased in production trim ahead of its debut later this year.
In a video released overnight, the company has revealed a few styling details of the new ute, along with enough snow, ice and fire to satisfy the showrunners of Game of Thrones.
We can see the production X-Class’ silhouette, headlamp and tail-light graphics, the design of the two-bar sports grille, and one of the ute’s alloy wheel designs.
Unlike the 2016 concept car, the vehicle seen here has a less aggressive front fascia design, repositioned headlamps, and what seems to be a conventional ute tailgate design.
Spy photos indicate the X-Class will feature largely unique exterior panels, but this teaser confirms the ute’s overall profile will be almost indistinguishable from the Nissan Navara that it’s based on.
Unlike the Navara, and the related Renault Alaskan, the X-Class will have a wider track with more prominently flared wheel arches. The X-Class will also have a unique five-link rear suspension, a toughened chassis, some exclusive Mercedes-Benz engines, and will only be available in dual-cab form.
Australia
The X-Class will be built alongside the Navara and Alaskan in select factories throughout the world, with Australian supply of the new Mercedes-Benz ute set to come from Nissan’s factory in Barcelona, Spain.
Local sales are due to begin some time during the first half of 2018, with a global reveal later this year.
