Ford recalls 400,000 Transit vans in North America, Australia unaffected

A total of 402,462 Ford Transit vans have been recalled in North America over concerns the drive shaft coupling could crack – though Australian versions are not affected.

According to reports, Transits that have racked up mileage could be susceptible to the fault, which can cause several major problems like loss of power, or the vehicle could roll away when parked without the handbrake engaged.

The vans in question are 2015-2017 model-year examples which have covered over 30,000 miles (48,280km). Ford’s notice affects medium, long and extended wheelbase vans and cab chassis models with medium wheelbases.

Vehicles that haven’t reached that 30,000-mile mark are unaffected by the recall, at least for now.

Of the 402,462 vehicles affected, 370,630 vehicles are in the United States, 2361 vehicles reside in federalised territories, 3217 vehicles in Mexico, and the remaining 26,254 vehicles are in Canada.

In addition to the van recall, Ford’s North American arm has issued two compliance recalls, including one notice for four examples of the 2017 Police Interceptor Utility vehicle based on the Explorer SUV, while three units of the 2016 Escape SUV have been asked back to replace the driver’s knee airbag module.

Australia

Ford’s local arm has confirmed that Australian versions of the Ford Transit and Escape are not affected by the recall notices issued in North America.
