A photo of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited from the factory floor has been posted online months ahead of the car’s expected debut.

This image was posted in the Jeep subreddit by LGTIII, although it’s not clear how the Reddit user came into possession of this photo.

Although the car seen here doesn’t look too different from the model currently in showrooms, we can see it features different doors and exterior panels, all with subtle design differences.

Other changes include a new vent on the trailing edge of the front wheel arch, and new wing mirrors.

The car seen here features a black folding soft-top, but a tan version will also reportedly be available too. A hardtop in either body colour or black will also be offered.

Despite the outward familiarity of the new body, the next-generation Wrangler is said to ride on a new platform. The new Wrangler range will feature some aluminium body panels and other weight saving measures to improve performance and fuel efficiency.

A report from May indicates the new Wrangler family will be offered with two versions of the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, and two variants of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the top-spec iteration of which is said to have 225kW of power.

There will also be 2.2- and 3.0-litre turbo-diesels.

Undisguised images of the new Wrangler Unlimited last surfaced in March, when grainy black and white photos were posted on the JL Wrangler Forums. Since then our spy photography agency has spied both the two-door model and the new ute variant undergoing testing.

The new Wrangler two-door and Unlimited are expected to debut later this year, with the ute following some time next year. Reports state the current Wrangler will remain in production, and will be sold in some markets as a cheaper alternative to the new model.
