2018 Renault Megane interior and engine bay leaked

More undisguised photos of the next-generation Renault Megane RS have leaked onto the internet.

This time around, pictures of the car’s undisguised engine bay and interior have been posted on the Ferd Facebook fan page. It’s not clear where the photos were sourced from.

If accurate, the interior of the new Megane RS will feature shapelier seats with red stitching. Red piping also features on the gear shifter and the steering wheel’s perforated leather covering.

Internet sleuths believe the engine pictured here is a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Thought to develop around 225kW of power, the motor seen below is closely related to the one powering the new Alpine A110 mid-engine coupe.

In the A110, the motor develops 185kW of power and 320Nm of torque, with all that gusto fed to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Renault has already confirmed the new Megane RS will come with four-wheel steering, and the choice of two chassis setups: the road-biased Sport, and track-focussed Cup.

Buyers will be able to choose between manual and dual-clutch transmissions. A five-door hatchback body will be standard, as will wider tracks and flared wheel arches.

The new car’s exterior design has already been revealed via patent images, and multiple leaks of undisguised prototypes vehicles.

The next-generation Megane RS will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September, but won’t go on sale in Europe until the first quarter of 2018.
