The upcoming Mercedes-AMG four-door coupe, still unnamed but commonly referred to as the GT4, has been spied again this week with a lot less camouflage – giving us a clearer look at the the company’s new model.

Compared to the most recent sighting in May, the production version of the AMG GT Concept sedan now sports the company’s new ‘Panamericana’ front grille, and forgoes the previous prototype’s fake rear spoiler, revealing more of its fastback-shaped rump.

It appears the production car will look very much like the concept that previewed it at the Geneva motor show this year, with very similar front and rear end treatments, though the quad-exhaust tips are a little different to the single centre-mounted unit used on the show car.

While the ‘GT4‘ name hasn’t been confirmed, the visual similarities to the GT coupe and convertible, along with the fact the four-door is a unique model to the Mercedes-AMG brand, suggest the sedan will retain the GT name in some form.

However, the new car will not ride on the exclusive underpinnings of its two-door siblings, rather utilising the MRA platform which forms the basis of Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class, E-Class and S-Class models.

In terms of powertrains, it’s believed the GT4 will initially be launched with a version of Mercedes-AMG’s 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8, though the “up to 600kW” hybrid system that featured on the concept car could also make its way to production at some point.

The production version of the AMG GT4 sedan is expected to make its debut some time in 2018.
