2018 Peugeot 3008 gets five-star ANCAP crash score

The new-generation 2018 Peugeot 3008 compact SUV will launch in Australia this month with a five-star ANCAP crash rating – vital in a safety-oriented vehicle segment.

The French rival for the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-5 scored 86 per cent for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child occupant protection, 58 per cent for its fitment of active safety technologies and 67 per cent for pedestrian protection.

The ANCAP score is based on testing conducted by partner organisation Euro NCAP. The five-star score has a 2016 date stamp, because that’s when it was tested.

Injury risk was deemed low for the driver and passenger in the full width frontal test, though ANCAP did say that the protection offered to the driver’s chest in the frontal offset test was marginal. Albeit, not marginal enough to deduct a star.

“The Peugeot 3008 performed well in testing with high scores achieved in the side impact and whiplash tests,” said ANCAP CEO James Goodwin.

“As a standard offering across the range, all variants are fitted with an intelligent speed assistance system which uses a camera to identify signposted speed limits and allow the driver to set the speed limiter appropriately.

“A lane departure warning system is also standard, while some variants are available with a more advanced function which provides active lane keep assistance.

“The functions available in this and other new models entering our market are part of a wave of semi-autonomous vehicle technologies which will work to improve road safety and form the basis for more highly autonomous vehicles in coming years,” he concluded.

Declared European Car of the Year in March, the new 2018 3008 arrives as a dramatically restyled replacement for the dowdy first-generation model that was never popular here.
