Holden Commodore the hoon’s weapon of choice in Victoria
The Holden Commodore is the most popular option for ‘hoon’ drivers, according to figures released by Victoria Police today.
The report shows that of 2204 vehicles impounded and crushed between July 2015 and December 2016, over 25 per cent of them were Holden Commodores, with an astounding 641 crushed during the period.
And, of the vehicles crushed, just under half were confiscated as a result of continuously driving while disqualified or suspended.
The next favourite vehicles for hoons were the Ford Falcon, the Mitsubishi Magna and Hyundai Excel, with hooning tradesmen selecting the Rodeo as their weapon of choice.
Outside of unlicensed driving, the most common cause of vehicles being sent to the crusher were for offences such as evading police, driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 45km/h and most surprising of all, exceeding the speed limit by more than 70km/h.
With the road toll in 2016 over 15 per cent up on the year before, it’s unclear whether record numbers of fixed speed cameras and speed camera revenue in Victoria are solving the problem.
