Infiniti teases retro single-seat concept ahead of Pebble Beach

Infiniti has teased a single-seat concept car, which will make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance later this month.

According to Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan Motor Company’s new senior vice president in charge of design, the concept sprang from a “what if?” question.

Namely: “What if we found a car, down at the southern tip of Japan, buried deep in the barn, hidden from all eyes for 70 years? What if in this car we found the seed of passion planted during our first Japanese Grand Prix and the power and artistry of Infiniti today? What would this discovery look like?”

Infiniti says the concept fuses together the company’s Powerful Elegance design language with “the ingenuity and adventure of early motorsports”. While the car with a retro-themed exterior, it will have “advanced EV technology”.

The retro race car is an interesting concept for Infiniti strike upon given the brand only dates back to 1989, when it was introduced in the North American market as a competitor to Toyota’s Lexus and Honda’s Acura, as well as the long-established European luxury marques.

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance officially kicks off on August 20 in California. Vehicles confirmed for this year’s event include a new BMW roadster, probably previewing the next-generation Z4, and the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Convertible Concept.
