Renault Koleos Diesel priced from $46,990, here in September

The Renault Koleos has added a new turbo-diesel engine to its range, in a single-specification variant that sits atop the range – starting at $46,990 before on-road costs.

It’s the same 130kW/380Nm 2.0-litre oiler that is offered in the related Nissan X-Trail, sending drive to an on-demand all-wheel drive system via a continuously-variable transmission (CVT).

However, unlike its Nissan twin, the Koleos Diesel only requires maintenance every 30,000 kilometres or 12 months, whichever comes first, where its Japanese counterpart has 10,000km/12 month servicing intervals.

The diesel claims fuel use of 6.1L/100km on the combined cycle, and includes idle stop/start technology.

Specification for the oiler mirrors that of the petrol-powered Intens variant ($43,490), which includes safety features like blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning with inter-urban (high speed) autonomous emergency braking (AEB), hands-free parking assistant, automatic LED headlights with auto high beam, an automatic tailgate, electric panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Bose audio system with subwoofer and digital amplifier, along with heated/ventilated front seats and leather upholstery.

However, the Koleos Diesel misses out on the petrol version’s remote engine start feature.

“The Koleos has always been our top-selling model in Australia,” said Renault Australia’s managing director, Justin Hocevar. “And with the arrival of a diesel engine to complete the line-up, there’s no question that Koleos will continue to go from strength to strength.”

Arriving in September, the Koleos Diesel will compete with top-spec diesel-powered medium SUVs like the Nissan X-Trail TL ($47,290) and Volkswagen Tiguan 140TDI Highline ($49,990).
