Two Ferrari F40s under the hammer this weekend
Two examples of one of the world’s most iconic supercars, the Ferrari F40, is up for auction this weekend. And, with only 1311 units produced worldwide, it’s rare to see any for sale – let alone two.
A 1990 F40 recently went under the hammer at Bonham’s in the UK, and sold for AU$1,074,433. Remarkably, the final figure was below its estimated auction value of between AU $1.2m and $1.6m.
It was a one-owner car with only 3379 kilometres on the odometer, and before being locked away in a climate-controlled garage in the late ’90s, the supercar was never driven in bad weather.
The second F40 (below) was built in 1991 and has clocked 4509 kilometres. The first owner had it placed in storage til 2005, where it was let loose once again in 2014 to its second owner.
During this time the car received some TLC, which included servicing and a set of brand new tyres. But for buyers who are wanting 100 per cent originality, the original tyres do come with the sale, along with manuals, tools and Schedoni fitted luggage.
This F40 offered by RM Sotheby’s is expected to be worth more than the 1990 model from Bonham’s, as it was one of 213 units specified for the US. It is estimated to be sold for between AU$1.6m and $1.8m, with no reserve.
It seems prices for these sought after Ferraris have skyrocketed. In 2012, an F40 was offered on eBay for AU $572,113.
