2016-17 Mazda BT-50 recalled for airbag fix
Mazda has issued a recall for 277 examples of its late-2016 to early-2017 BT-50 utes over concerns faulty initiators may cause the side airbags to not inflate in a collision.
The Japanese manufacturer reports that an incorrect chemical mixture could cause the inflator to not initiate, meaning the airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash.
If the condition occurs, this poses an increased risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants. Mazda Australia has confirmed that no cases of the fault have been reported locally, and that this isn’t a Takata-related airbag recall.
Affected BT-50 utes were sold from 29 December 2016 through 4 April 2017. The VIN list for these vehicles can be viewed here.
Owners of the recalled BT-50 vehicles will be contacted via mail by Mazda Australia, and advised to present their ute to their local dealer.
