Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package revealed
The Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package has made its global debut at the Frankfurt motor show this week, bringing a very different look and feel to the company’s track weapon.
Following the reveal of the updated 911 GT3 at the Geneva motor show in March, the Touring Package is very much like a series-production version of the sought-after 911 R limited-edition that was available last year, which essentially tailored the race-ready GT3 package for the road.
The name ‘Touring Package’ harks back to a variant of the 1973 911 Carrera RS, with the new version modernising the concept of maximum driver engagement and understated appearance – a ‘pure’ 911, if you will.
You’ll quickly notice the absence of the GT3’s massive rear wing, instead using a variable rear wing like the 911 Carrera – and the 2016 911 R – though the Touring Package’s unit gets an extra aero tip.
The body is otherwise unchanged, with large intakes at the front, the typical GT3 air outlet at the rear, 20-inch forged alloy wheels with centre locks, 245/35 front and 305/30 rear tyres, along with the 44mm wider and 25mm lower setup than the standard 911 Carrera.
Other distinguishing features include silver-coloured side window trims, sports exhaust tailpipes, headlight washer covers, and just ‘Porsche‘ badging on the rump rather than ‘GT3’ – though a ‘GT3 Touring’ logo adorns the rear grille lid.
Inside, the 911 GT3 with Touring Package features leather throughout the cabin rather than the Alcantara trimmings found in the racier version, though the seat inserts feature black fabric. Additionally, black aluminium highlights accent the new finishes.
There’s also the Porsche Communications Management (PCM) infotainment system as standard, with the Connect Plus module and Porsche Track Precision app – the latter enabling the driver to display, record and analyse detailed driving data on their smartphone.
Under the bonnet is the familiar 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated boxer engine, developing 368kW of power and 460Nm of torque. In Touring Package trim, the 911 GT3 comes with a six-speed manual only.
Porsche claims a 3.9-second sprint from 0-100km/h, on its way to a top speed of 316km/h. By comparison, the 911 R was 0.1 seconds quicker to 100km/h from a standstill and had a 323km/h top speed despite having the same power and torque.
The GT3 with Touring Package is available with all options offered on the regular 911 GT3 – with the exception of the Clubsport Package and Alcantara interior – including all exterior and wheel colours, ceramic brakes, LED headlights, seat variants, Sport Chrono Package, and audio systems.
Interestingly, the reveal of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package comes just a week after reports out of Europe quoted the company’s R&D boss, Michael Steiner, hinting that Porsche was planning to introduce a permanent ‘purist’ variant to the range.

The Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package is available locally from $326,800 plus on-road costs – the same as the regular 911 GT3.
Deliveries are set to commence in the first quarter of 2018.
