Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI Sportline now available from $45,990

The Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI Sportline has joined the Australian line-up this week ahead of deliveries commencing in December, starting at $45,990 before on-road costs.

Slotting in under the 162TSI Highline variant, the Sportline trim brings a more affordable option to the performance Tiguan range in similar fashion to the Golf GTI Original and R Grid models recently announced for the Australian market.

Full details of the new trim level are yet to be disclosed, though the 162TSI Sportline will feature the same 162kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol from the Golf GTI – meaning it will retain its 6.5-second 0-100km/h sprint claim.

Standard equipment includes 20-inch ‘Kapstadt’ alloy wheels, adaptive chassis control, sport comfort seats with microfleece and cloth trim, adaptive cruise control, side assist and Traffic Jam Assist.

It’s unknown at this stage what exactly the Sportline misses out on compared to the more luxurious 162TSI Highline ($48,490), though we’d expect the 9.2-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch Active Info display to be missing – or at least optional.

However, the 20-inch wheels are larger than the standard 18-inch ‘Kingston’ rims on the Highline.

There are no images of the new variant yet, though using Volkswagen’s UK configurator allowed us to mockup an indication of what the vehicle will look like (above).

The Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI Sportline is available to order now, with first deliveries arriving in December.
