Tesla has issued a recall notice for its 2016 and 2017 Model X SUVs over concerns the rear left seatback in some cars may move forward in the event of a collision.

Because Tesla does not reveal region-specific sales numbers, it also does not offer details on the number of vehicles affected by this recall in Australia.

While the company is quick to confirm no incidents related to this fault have been reported, Tesla says a “small number” of Model X vehicles may need cables for the second row ‘fold-flat’ seats adjusted.

To conduct the repairs, the company is deploying its mobile repair service – though customers can still elect to take the vehicle to their local service centre.

In the meantime, Tesla has advised owners against having two adults sitting in the middle and left rear seats at the same time.

The recall affects Model X units produced from 28 October 2016 through 16 August 2017.

According to Tesla, the repairs should take around 10 minutes to complete.

“Model X has received the highest rating in every category and subcategory in independent crash tests conducted by the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and we are committed to ensuring that Model X remains the safest SUV in the world,” a Tesla spokesperson said in a statement.
