2018 Toyota Fortuner pricing and specs

The Toyota Fortuner range has been updated this week, with prices slashed by at least $5000 despite the additional of new equipment across all variants.

Kicking off the range is the GX, which has seen a price reduction of $5400, bringing the price of entry down to $42,590 before on-road costs for the six-speed manual.

Despite the cut, the base model (above) gets 17-inch alloy wheels (as shown on the black model here) in place of the previous model’s steelies. Rear parking sensors have also been added, complementing the already-included rear-view camera.

Other standard features for the GX include fabric trim, projector headlights, LED tail-lights, bluetooth, a six-speaker sound system, three 12V outlets, a multi-function steering wheel, and an air-conditioned cool box.

Stepping up to the GXL will now set you back $47,490 plus ORCs – around $500 cheaper than the original price of the GX, representing a $5500 saving.

New features for the mid-tier Fortuner include satellite navigation, Toyota Link app compatibility and digital radio. This extra equipment is on top of the GXL’s existing keyless entry and start, fog-lights, privacy glass and hill descent control.

Finally, sitting atop the range is the Crusade (above), which gets a price reduction of $5000 – now asking for $56,990 before on-roads.

Compared to last year’s model, the flagship model adds an 11-speaker JBL audio system, heated eight-way power-adjustable front seats, and LED fog-lights. The Crusade is also now an automatic-only proposition.

Other equipment highlights include a leather-accented interior in ‘fawn’ or dark brown, power tailgate, climate control, bi-LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels including a full-size spare, and a 220V socket.

The Fortuner remains motivated by the 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel shared with the HiLux ute. Power and torque outputs are 130kW and 450Nm respectively, with fuel use rated at 7.8L/100km with the six-speed manual and 8.6L/100km when fitted with the six-speed auto.

Meanwhile, maximum towing capacity is also unchanged at 3000kg for the manual and 2800kg for the automatic.

Toyota says the Fortuner “is the turbo-diesel alternative to the similar-size petrol-only Kluger and offers an affordable choice for those who aspire to own a LandCruiser“.
