Hyundai Hypereconiq Ioniq concept revealed for SEMA show

Hyundai has once again teamed with Bisimoto Engineering to create the HyperEconiq Ioniq concept for the SEMA show later this month.

Combining the “best hypermiling, economy and friction technologies”, the HyperEconiq Ioniq features an array of mechanical and cosmetic enhancements to make it one of the coolest eco-friendly cars to date.

“Leveraging the outstanding Ioniq electrified platform and powertrain, we’ve focused on a variety of technical elements to bring efficiency, aero and design to the highest level,” said Bisi Ezerioha, president of Bisimoto Engineering.

“The HyperEconiq Ioniq takes the Ioniq where we always knew it could go, without sacrificing drivability.”

Modifications include a Bisimoto pulse-chamber exhaust system, low-rolling resistance and high-silica tyres, Buddy Club aluminium brake calipers, Recaro Pole Position racing seats, 19-inch one-piece carbon-fibre wheels, a Bisimoto Dream Aero Kit – which includes the front splitter, wing, side skirts and rear wheel covers – along with coilover suspension.

There’s no word regarding upgrades to the powertrain, but the standard plug-in hybrid Ioniq on which the concept is based pairs a 77kW/147Nm 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 45kW electric motor. Claimed range on pure electric power is rated at ‘over 50 kilometres’ from its 8.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

The 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show kicks off on October 31 in Las Vegas.
