Hyundai ix35, Santa Fe, Sonata recalled

Hyundai has issued recalls for earlier versions of its ix35, Santa Fe and Sonata model lines this week, with the SUVs susceptible of a fire risk while the sedan could have a faulty parking brake.

ix35 and Santa Fe recall (446 vehicles)

The Korean manufacturer has recalled 446 examples of its popular SUV models, sold between 31 August 2011 and 1 November 2011, over concerns vehicles fitted with an ‘R’ diesel engine could spring a fuel leak, posing a fire risk.

According to the notice, a manufacturing defect in the fuel feed hose assembly is to blame, and could lead to an engine compartment fire.

Hyundai says that 148 ix35 units and 298 Santa Fe models are affected by the notice. A VIN list for these vehicles can be viewed here.

Owners will be contacted by Hyundai Australia via mail, and will be advised to contact their local dealer for the inspection and rectification of this issue.

Sonata recall (892 vehicles)

Meanwhile, the 2015 model-year Sonata sedan has been recalled over concerns the parking brake may not alert the driver when it is still engaged.

If the condition occurs, owners may be driving the vehicle unaware that the parking brake is still on, which Hyundai says “could induce the risk of vehicle crashing”.

Affected Sonatas were sold from 6 May 2014 through 2 March 2015. The VIN list for these vehicles can be viewed here.

Owners of the recalled sedans will be contacted via mail, and advised to make an appointment with their local Hyundai dealer to have their Sonata inspected and repaired.
