Volvo V90: “No final word” on wagon’s arrival

Volvo Australia is still yet to confirm an Australian arrival date for the V90, saying there is “no final word” on when (or if) the big wagon will be arriving Down Under.

Speaking to CarAdvice at the ADVI International Driverless Vehicle Summit in Adelaide, Greg Bosnich, communications boss for Volvo’s local division, said “discussion is ongoing” about the car in Australia.

The car was initially slated for local launch in early 2017 but, as we push through November and into the silly season, there’s still no sign of the sexy Swede.

Bosnich directed attention to the just-launched V90 Cross Country, which he said is “going well,” and mentioned the recent change of management at head office for Volvo Australia. Stephen Connor replaced Kevin McCann as managing director at the company earlier this month.

“For now we haven’t had a final plan – either it’s off the table or [it’s on the table] – but it’s definitely still in the plans,” Bosnich said.

When (or if) it arrives in Australia, the V90 will go head-to-head with the BMW 5 Series Touring and Jaguar XF Sportbrake.

Mercedes-Benz has elected not to offer the regular E-Class Estate, opting instead to let the high-riding All Terrain carry the wagon flag alone Down Under. Audi only offers the A6 Avant in fire-breathing RS6 specification, making it an incredibly niche product.
