2018 Jeep Cherokee facelift unveiled
The Jeep Cherokee facelift has been revealed ahead the car’s full debut at the 2018 Detroit motor show.
As revealed in a series of spy photos, the updated Cherokee has a heavily revised face, which does away with the controversial the split-headlamp design.
The company has retained the semi-slanted grille design from the current car, but, from what we can see, the latest version is shorter, has a smaller spacing between the slats, and a less aggressive rake angle.
To go along with these changes, there’s also a new bonnet, a redesigned front bumper, and lightly tweaked front quarter panels.
Around the back, the Cherokee now features redesigned graphics for its tail-lights, with the dominant colour for the cluster shifting from red to white.
Perhaps just as importantly, thanks to the licence plate holder moving up from the bumper to a position just below the crease on the tailgate, Jeep has eliminated the acres of blank space that once dominated the Cherokee’s rear end.
All upm the changes give the refreshed Cherokee a look that’s more in line with the smaller Compass, the second generation of which went on sale globally this year.
As far as the interior goes, the differences are far less dramatic. There seem to be revisions to the metallic trim, and a new design around the base of the transmission shifter.
Although Jeep has revealed the crossover’s design almost a month ahead of its in-the-flesh debut, the company is keeping details about the car’s drivetrain and specifications under wraps for now.
Earlier this month, Bozi Tatarevic, a freelance automotive journalist, uncovered filings indicating the Cherokee, at least in the USA, will gain the option of the new 201kW 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which made its debut last month along with the next-generation Wrangler.

It’s not known when the facelifted Cherokee will arrive in local showrooms. We expect to find out more at, or just before, the Detroit motor show, which kicks off in the middle of January.
