2018 Jeep Compass scores five-star ANCAP safety rating

The 2018 Jeep Compass has been awarded a five-star safety rating by independent local crash-testing authority, ANCAP.

Scoring 35.93 out of 37, the Compass achieved full marks for the side impact and pole tests, along with a best-possible ‘good’ rating for whiplash protection.

The Compass is the fourth model in Jeep’s line-up to score a five-star rating, following the Renegade, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee.

“At Jeep we are committed to safety and are pleased with ANCAP’s 5 star rating on Compass,” said Steve Zanlunghi, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia CEO.

Jeep’s local division also says it recognises the need to “continually evolve” its safety offerings across its line-up, and therefore will be making autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane-departure warning “available” across the entire Compass range. At launch it wasn’t offered in entry-level Sport or Longitude grades, even as an option.

CarAdvice understands that the ‘Safety Pack’ will be offered from 1 January 2018, priced around the $1000 mark in Sport and Longitude variants. Stay tuned for an official announcement in the new year.
