Mercedes-Benz to debut new infotainment system at CES

Mercedes-Benz will use the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to unveil its next-generation infotainment system.

Dubbed Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or ‘MBUX’ for short, the system makes use of artificial intelligence for a more intuitive user experience.

Details about the system are hard to come by at this stage, but we know it will debut in the “next compact car generation” in 2018. Translated from Daimler speak, that likely means the new A-Class will be the first to use MBUX, which will eventually roll out across the wider Mercedes-Benz range.

At the moment, the Mercedes-Benz range is fitted with COMAND infotainment. The system can be controlled using a touchpad, rotary knob, hard shortcut buttons, steering wheel controls and voice control.

For those of you playing along at home, that’s a lot of different ways of controlling the system. We’d suggest the new offering will simplify the control scheme, although that could be asking too much.

Along with the new infotainment tech, Mercedes will use CES to show the Concept EQA, the Smart EQ fortwo and the Mercedes-AMG Project One.
