2013 Lexus IS added to Takata airag recall

Lexus has issued a recall for 698 vehicles across its 2013 IS model line as part of the ongoing Takata airbag campaign.

This latest notice is due to the front passenger airbag inflators in affected vehicles, which may be susceptible to moisture intrusion over time.

If the condition occurs, the airbag inflator assembly may rupture when deployed, posing a risk of serious injury, even death, to the vehicle’s occupants.

Lexus says there have been no incidents or injuries reported from owners of affected vehicles.

The breakdown of affected vehicles by model and production period are as follows:

• IS F (28 units) – January 2013-December 2013
• IS250 C (68 units) – January 2013-December 2013
• IS250 (402 units) – January 2013-March 2013
• IS350 (200 units) – January 2013-March 2013

Owners of the recalled Lexus IS models will be contacted via mail and/or phone, and will be advised to visit their local dealer for priority repairs.

Replacement of the front passenger airbag is expected to take around four hours per vehicle, with repairs to be carried out free of charge.
