The facelifted BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been unveiled with styling tweaks, a new transmission option and other upgrades.

Stylistically, the 2 Series Active Tourer sports an updated front fascia with a wider set of kidney grilles, a slightly more aggressive design, a blacked out lower section on models without the M Sport styling kit, restyled LED fog lights, and new headlamp graphics for cars with LED lighting.

At the back, the rear bumper has been tweaked with most models gaining larger exhaust tips. There are also two new paint options, and six new alloy wheel designs.

In Europe, at least, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is now available on the 218i, 220i and 216d models, while an eight-speed automatic is available on the 225i and 218d.

The engine range has been given various efficiency upgrades, with the 218i now rated at 103kW/220Nm, but the 220i unchanged at 141kW/280Nm.

All diesel models now feature a particulate filter, NOx absorber catalyst, and an AdBlue selective catalytic reduction system. The 218d model now boasts 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque.

On the inside, there’s updated an instrumentation panel, the latest iDrive infotainment system, and either a 6.5- or 8.8-inch touchscreen on navigation equipped models.

Since the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer people movers were launched back in 2014, the company has sold around 380,000 units worldwide, with the biggest markets being Germany, China and the UK.

During that same period, 3533 2 Series Active Tourer models were sold in Australia. For context, the 10,913 X1 crossovers were sold during those years, although the 2 Series Active Tourer wasn’t available for the whole of 2014.

Australia

The updated 2 Series Active Tourer, and the long wheelbase 2 Series Gran Tourer, go on sale across Europe starting from March 2018.

We’re waiting to hear back from BMW Australia about local availability and timing. The 2 Series Gran Tourer has, to date, not been available in Australia.
