2018 Hyundai Veloster previewed ahead of Detroit

The next-generation 2018 Hyundai Veloster has been teased again in a set of shadowy images, ahead of its global reveal at next week’s Detroit motor show.

While the company remains secretive on full exterior design details of its latest coupe-hatchback mashup, one of the images is a rendering of the new model’s interior, which features a driver-oriented dashboard distinguishing itself from the related i30.

Should the production model’s cabin echo the image, there will also be a simplistic approach to buttons and dials, appearing to only have three physical controls on the centre console set below a floating tablet-style infotainment system.

The dashboard will also form a prominent partition between the front passenger and driver, giving the Veloster a cockpit-style interior that should deliver a more enclosed and driver-focused feel.

Meanwhile, the exterior shots don’t offer any surprises – considering we saw an undisguised Veloster doing promotional filming just weeks ago.

It appears the vehicle to be revealed in Detroit will be a standard or ‘Turbo’ variant, with the rumoured hi-po Veloster N to come later on.

The vehicle in the images is finished in grey and has a centrally-mounted dual exhaust tip system – a design trait of the current Veloster Turbo.

We’re expecting the new Veloster to launch with two variants – a naturally-aspirated base model and then a Turbo variant using the same 150kW 1.6-litre turbo as the i30 SR.

Following the initial launch, an all-out Veloster N (below) should join the range, powered by a 184kW and/or 202kW 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, as with the upcoming i30 N hero hatch.
