2019 Range Rover Evoque spied

The next-generation Range Rover Evoque has been spied during testing in Europe.

Stylistically, the new car is a clear evolution of today’s model, with its aggressive lines and angled roof both present.

Notable changes include front wheelarch bulges that no longer intrude into the crossover’s clamshell bonnet, and tail-lights that stretch into the tailgate.

The Hoffmeister kink seen in the rear-quarter glass can be ignored, as it’s a fiction created purely by the prototype’s swirly disguise tape.

Reports suggest the second-generation Evoque will be based on an updated version of the current car’s platform. If so, the new car will be available in front- and all-wheel drive formats, and will be closely related to the recently unveiled Jaguar E-Pace.

It’s said the new Evoque will grow slightly, and offer improved interior space compared to today’s vehicle. Once again, a selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are expected to power the majority of models.

A plug-in hybrid drivetrain has been rumoured.

Last year, Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s head of design, hinted the three-door Evoque will not survive the generation change.

If this proves to be true, the Evoque will follow a recent industry trend, with many manufacturers phasing out their three-door models in favour of the more popular and practical five-door layout.

McGovern did leave open to possibility of a two-door convertible version of the new Evoque, though.
