Geely MPV Concept unveiled at Shanghai show

The sleek Geely MPV Concept has been revealed at the 2017 Shanghai motor show.

The people mover concept car was designed under the close watch of Peter Horbury, the man oversaw Volvo’s move away from its boxy and easily mocked designs.

In his role as Geely’s design chief, he now oversees the design direction of the Geely, Volvo and Lynk & Co brands.

According to the company, the MPV Concept was developed as part of Geely’s ‘Generation 3.0’ product roll out, which has so far yielded the GC9 sedan and Bo Yue crossover, amongst others. Compared to those cars, the MPV Concept has smoother styling and detailing.

It’s not clear what type of drivetrain the MPV Concept is utilising, but we expect any production version to feature engines used elsewhere within the Geely range, such as the company’s 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor.

Geely says the MPV Concept was developed “for business users who require something that satisfies their nine-to-five professional life, but also satisfies the demands of family life”.

As such, the company stayed well away from the traditional box-on-wheels look, and instead took inspiration from the “comfort and privacy offered by private jets”.

Like many other concept cars, the MPV Concept has a suicide door arrangement, as well as individual seats with a highly technical look.

The concept seats six people across three rows, and also features a full-length panoramic glass roof, 20-inch alloy wheels, and interactive door panels, which can be made to interact with and extend a passenger’s smartphone.
