2017 Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 revealed

We loved the previous iteration of the Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 so much, we couldn’t contain our excitement when the new 2017-spec version was revealed for the UK market.

Said to have been “engineered to shine in the most gruelling conditions,” the 2017 Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 is the uber-tough product of a collaboration between the Japanese car and truck maker and Icelandic 4×4 specialists Arctic Trucks, and follows in the mighty off-road-sized footprints of the 2016 Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35.

Based on the newly-revised 2017 Isuzu D-Max, the new Arctic Trucks AT35 is powered by a brand-new 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 121kW of power at 3600rpm and 360Nm of torque between 2000-2500rpm.

Replacing the previous AT35’s 120kW/400Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo-diesel engine, the new 1.9-litre meets Euro 6 emissions standards, and does so without the addition of AdBlue.

Available exclusively as a dual-cab pick-up, the AT35 mirrors the standard D-Max in being offered with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It also carries over the standard car’s 3.5-tonne towing capacity and one-tonne payload.

Boasting a monstrous 290mm of ground clearance – up 55mm on the standard D-Max – the go-anywhere AT35 also features a 36-degree approach angle (up from 30 degrees), a 24-degree departure angle (up from 23 degrees), and a 32-degree ramp angle (up from 22 degrees).

Ensuring the genuine off-roader looks the part, the AT35 is equipped with flared wheel arch extensions, chrome ‘AT’ badging and matching decals, ‘AT’ mud flaps, and 17×10-inch ‘AT’ alloy wheels fitted with 315mm-wide, 70-aspect all-terrain Nokian Rotiiva tyres.

Keyless entry and a push-button start is standard fair on the AT35, along with a 7.0-inch colour touchscreen with satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Audio. Tinted windows, a tailgate damper, and ‘Arctic Trucks’-embroidered headrests and floor mats are also included.

Officially launching in the UK in October, priced from £37,995 ($61,500), Isuzu’s local arm says as cool as the truck may be, the 2017 Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 remains off the radar for now – which we think is sad.

“Currently there are no plans to introduce the Arctic Trucks D-Max to the Australian market,” Isuzu Ute Australia marketing and public relations assistant general manager Dave Harding told CarAdvice.

Locally, the updated 2017 Isuzu D-Max range is powered by a Euro 5-compliant 130kW/430Nm 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel truck engine, with prices ranging from $28,500 to $54,200 (before on-road costs).
