Britain’s biggest car collection boasts a lazy 24 Lagondas

The man who owns Britain’s biggest car collection has amassed over 350 cars worth nearly AUD $65 million.

Roger Duddling made his fortune inventing a ticketing machine in the ’60s, and later bought loads of land and parking garages. Smart bloke.

Dating from 1911 to cars of today, his widespread taste in cars range from exotics like a Jaguar E-Type, Ferrari Dino and Lamborghini Countach, to the more obscure like a Mercedes-Benz Smart Car, Delorean DMC and BMW Isetta.

“My most valuable car – not in monetary terms – strictly emotional, is my late father’s 1952 split windscreen Morris Minor,” said Duddling.

What is most fascinating about his collection is, he owns a number of Aston Martin Lagondas.

“You either love them or hate them, and I’m now up to 24. You would probably have to be nutty to own one,” said Duddling.

To maintain the massive collection, Duddling employs a motoring engineer and a cleaner, both working full-time.

Every three months, each car gets driven up to 10 miles to keep the oil lubricated and suspension in working order.

“As an engineer, I can look upon a motor car as three-dimensional art. It doesn’t have to be an expensive motor car, it can be a very small motor car,” explained Duddling.

Duddling’s next project is to build an AUD $11m facility for his ever-expanding collection of cars and motorcycles.

Studio 434 is based on the outskirts of Britain and is open to the public as a museum, where he also rents out cars for functions and weddings.
