The funky 2018 Citroen C3 has officially been confirmed for the Australian market, with the boldly-styled hatchback to be launched Down Under “in the coming months”, over a year since it was first revealed in June 2016.

Citroen’s local arm has already begun taking expressions of interest on its website, and a glance at the browser tab reveals the line “arriving in October”. It will be the first time the C3 nameplate has been offered locally since the previous-generation model was axed in 2014.

Speaking with CarAdvice, Jemma White, corporate communications manager for Citroen in Australia, confirmed the little hatch is on its way, though was unable to share local details for the upcoming small car.

While local specifications and pricing are yet to be detailed, headlining features for the European market include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Citroen’s new ‘ConnectedCam’ system – which includes a HD camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror allowing the driver to shoot video and take photos of the view ahead – and the availability of the company’s ‘Airbump’ strips that we first saw on the larger C4 Cactus.

There’s also an array of customisation options, including nine exterior paint finishes, three contrasting roof colours, giving a total of 36 combinations.

While engine options haven’t been confirmed for our market, the UK version offers a 1.2-litre petrol engine in three states of tune (50kW, 60kW, 81kW) and a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel in 55kW and 73kW trims.

The C3 is offered in certain markets with a five-speed manual or an optional EAT6 six-speed automatic transmission depending on variant.

Meanwhile, it appears the larger C4 Picasso (above) has been axed from the company’s local line-up, with the small people mover  now absent from the company’s website.

We’re still waiting to get an official confirmation from Citroen Australia, though it’s likely slow sales are to blame. Only 27 C4 Picassos have found homes, year to date – down 41.3 per cent.
