Renault Australia is in the process of submitting regulatory documents to approve the Alpine A110 for sale in Australia, despite staying quiet about its future here.

The latest documents and images, submitted on August 1, 2017, suggest Renault is close to gaining approval to sell the vehicle in Australia.

Just like documents submitted for the Renault Zoe, which now looks to be imminent, the cost of going down the path of registering a vehicle for sale are too prohibitive if there are no actual plans to sell the vehicle.

As we already know, the A110 weighs in at just 1080kg making it light by today’s standards.

Under the bonnet is a new 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, developing 185kW of power and 320Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The A110 can sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.

The A110 features three driver modes; Normal, Sport and Track, which adapt the engine, transmission, steering, ESC, exhaust note and driver display to the driving conditions and driver’s mood.

Deliveries of the new Alpine A110 Premiere Edition will commence in late-2017 in European left-hand drive markets such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, with right-hand drive markets like the UK and Japan to get first deliveries next year.

Alpine says it will offer several versions of the A110 once the run of Premiere Edition is completed, along with a range of personalisation options.

In September last year, the company said to expect a starting price between $75,000 and $90,000 – the Alfa Romeo 4C kicks off at $89,000 while the Porsche 718 Cayman starts at $110,000.

Given the timing of the documents, we’d expect the vehicle to go on sale locally at the beginning of 2018.
