Subaru Ascent teased ahead of November 28 debut

Subaru has teased its upcoming seven-seat SUV, the Ascent, on Twitter ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles motor show.

With styling derived from the Ascent Concept (below) launched in New York this April, the car is designed to go head-to-head with the VW Atlas in the USA.

Unlike the unloved, too-small Tribeca that came before it, the Ascent is likely to be big enough to make American buyers happy. The concept measured over five metres long, and the production car is expected to closely match the concept. Then again, we’ve heard that from Subaru before.

Power will come from a new direct-injected, 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder flat-four, though further details are otherwise tough to come by.

The car will be built at the Subaru plant in Indiana, USA, and the company is yet to confirm whether it will be built in right-hand drive for Australia.

“Now we are focused to the US market and left-hand drive, but for right-hand drive, it depends on the market request. America has big volume,” Masahiko Inoue, Subaru project general manager product and portfolio division, told CarAdvice earlier this year.
