2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible spied in the snow

The BMW 8 Series Convertible has been spied this week during cold weather testing wearing less camouflage, giving us a closer look at the company’s upcoming drop-top.

Looking very much like its coupe twin – albeit with a different roof design – there aren’t too many surprises in terms of the 8 Series Convertible’s overall design.

It appears the open-top 8 Series will employ a fabric roof rather than a metal one, which saves weight and is also the more traditional of the two – fitting since the new model is reviving a nameplate from the 1990s.

This particular vehicle looks like its wearing the sportier M Sport styling package, which gets more aggressive bumper treatments and larger alloy wheels.

Expect the engine range to mirror that of the coupe, which will likely include six-, eight- and 12-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines.

These spy shots come shortly after an undisguised example of the coupe was leaked online earlier this week (below), showing just how similar the final product will be to the Concept 8 Series that previewed it.

With that in mind we can expect the convertible version look largely identical, with the obvious exception of the fabric roof.

The 8 Series coupe is expected to make its public debut sometime this year, likely to be either at the Geneva motor show in March or the Paris motor show in September.

It’s unclear whether the convertible will be revealed at the same time or sometime after, though we’d expect a slight delay considering final versions of the coupe have already surfaced.
